Turin, 29 January 2014
Counterfeit medicines is a serious problem affecting every country in the world and posing a great danger to patients and citizens at large. The conference which will take place in Turin on 29 January, is organized by the Observatory on Counterfeiting of the Province of Turin, the Turin Chamber of Commerce and PATLIB in cooperation with UNICRI and Italian Customs Agency.
The meeting aims at presenting the results of UNICRI’s work within the SAVEmed project. The project, funded by the European Commission within the framework of the Seventh Framework Programme, focused on the fight against counterfeit medicines and organized crime managing this illicit activity. UNICRI was a partner of the project and was responsible for the implementation of several research activities. In this regard, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) actively contributed to UNICRI's activities.
The following topics will be presented and discussed during the conference: organized crime’s strategies for the production and distribution of counterfeit medicines; the role of the Internet as a facilitating factor for the selling of counterfeit medicines; the project awareness campaign and good public-private communication strategies to prevent counterfeiting.
Representatives of public institutions involved in the fight against the counterfeiting of medicines will participate in the conference. This will allow for a thorough understanding of the role and activities undertaken by national and international institutions.
