The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) held a three-day expert-level meeting to spotlight pressing issues – including emerging threats and trends – related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) proliferation financing in Southeast Asia.
Thanks to stringent regulatory control regimes enforced by states, the probability of a radiological or nuclear terrorist attack remains relatively low. However, given the major impact of such an incident, it is crucial to ensure a coherent and well-planned response.
On 22 February 2023, experts from a wide range of Ukrainian State agencies and ministries attended an online training entitled “Stop the virus of disinformation”. The training aimed to provide participants with techniques on how to detect and respond to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) disinformation, as well as communicate with the media following a CBRN event.

On 26 and 27 January 2023, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) held a two-day workshop in Rabat to consult with Moroccan authorities in charge of preventing and combating the threats stemming from potential chemical weapons attacks conducted by violent non-state actors. The workshop was conducted within the framework of the project “ATLAS – Preventing non-state actors from planning and carrying out chemical weapons attacks through intelligence-led operations”.

On 19 January 2023, within the framework of the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) Initiative, the Regional Secretariat for Central Asia held a meeting to discuss the development of the draft Chemical Safety Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was part of the technical advisory activities requested by our partner country, the Republic of Uzbekistan, to support the elaboration of this new law.
